Advantages of Gel vs. Foam
- Gel will support the patient evenly across the horizontal plain on which the patient is lying, whereas foam will breakdown over an extended period of time.
- Gel is designed to simulate human fatty tissue composition, foam does not exhibit these properties.
- Gel reduces shear and friction that contributes to skin breakdown and the formation of ducubitae.
- Gel is reusable (cost effective), vs. disposable. Gel is repairable, whereas foam would need to be disposed of if ripped.
- Gel pads are Anti-microbial and Anti-bacterial.
- Gel pads and positioners, are manufactured with a 1/4 inch continuous seal to the outer edge of the product to eliminate the chance for contaminants to collect between the gel skin.

The true gel material will not migrate, leak, evaporate, harden, or dry out if the cushion is accidentally punctured.
